Marietta & Mustapha

Between the walls of the old town and the sweeping streets of the new town, Mustapha spent his childhood full of diversity in the historic metropolis of Fes. Magically drawn to the distance, he set off on an extensive trip through Europe in his early twenties. This ended in Austria, where he met Marietta from Vienna. From then on, the two were inseparable, not only privately but also professionally. The two developed an ever-changing business concept in which they focused on their shared affection for Mustapha's homeland. In the process, they discovered their creative abilities and how they complemented each other wonderfully.

In 2005 they opened a small shop for Moroccan handicrafts in the sixth district, where their "one-table restaurant", their first culinary experimentation workshop, is also located. After finding a suitable shop for their home accessories in Stiegengasse and a suitable restaurant in Leopoldstadt, they started the "private dinner" pilot project. They created an incomparable Moroccan oasis in a basement restaurant. This insider tip, which can only be booked online by pre-ordering a menu, is entered through an unspectacular entrance and immediately surprised by a mystical interior.

Mustapha now also cooks with interested people in individual workshops. At this time he impressed the food critic Severin Corti with a "Pastilla Fassia" and was soon awarded a toque by Gault & Millau. Anyone who wants to visit the hotspot for Moroccan cuisine no longer has to climb down stairs, because after the extension to the restaurant it is also accessible on the ground floor. L'ORIENT is not only exceptional in terms of its cuisine, but also because of its interior. Based on the style of a Moroccan riad, it combines all kinds of traditional oriental craftsmanship, paired with contemporary design.

In the "new" L'ORIENT in the ninth district, interior design concepts are developed and furniture design is presented, with Mustapha's visions providing inspiration. He often spends weeks in the workshops, commuting between Marrakesh and Fes. In these locations, the design duo implements their ideas of contemporary design using Moroccan craftsmanship.
